Tim Williams Testimony before the Ohio Senate Finance Committee – Time 2:09 to 2:17

Senate Committee Hearings – Finance

Manufactured Homes:

Tim Williams, executive director of the Ohio Manufactured Homes Association, argued against the elimination of the OMHC as an independent agency.

He claimed the fire death statistics given by the governor’s administration were not applicable to manufactured homes built under the oversight of the commission. In addition, the House appropriation to maintain the commission would cost half a million dollars less than the governor’s proposal to absorb it into the Department of Commerce.

“Manufactured homes are safe. They are well built. They are owned by people who care for their properties. And they are helping people regardless of their income achieve the dream of home ownership,” Mr. Williams said.

Answering question from the panel, Mr. Williams said former state fire marshal Larry Flowers sponsored the legislation to create the commission when he was a legislator and that fire departments have jurisdiction with respect to inspecting hydrants and other fire prevention activities
