Why Save the Manufactured Home Commission?

RECENTLY INTRODUCED LEGISLATION WILL ABOLISH THE OHIO MANUFACTURED HOMES COMMISSION

The Ohio General Assembly House of Representatives Finance Committee is currently reviewing proposed language in House Bill 49 that would abolish the Ohio Manufactured Homes Commission and setback our industry by two decades.  The current Manufactured Homes regulation for installations, dealer/salesperson licensing and MH Parks regulation won’t go away.  Instead regulation will be adding more layers of red tape and delays within the Department of Commerce various bureaucracies, fees will escalate and regulations will be more burdensome.    The Manufactured Homes Commission is currently cutting all fees by 22% or $1,050,200.  If the Commission is abolished these fees will be lost and more regulation will be the new norm.

Why Save the Commission?

  • HIGHER FEES! OMHC reduced Park license fees by nearly 10% and is in process to further reduce Park and various other license and homeowner inspection fees by an additional 22% or $1,050,200. These fee reductions are at risk!
  • RED TAPE and DELAYS! If the Manufactured Homes Commission is abolished all regulation will be buried in various state bureaucracies once again.
  • NO CUSTOMER SERVICE! The Commission is a one stop shop for all installation, inspections, consumer complaints, and retail and park regulations in the State of Ohio.
  • NO INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE!  The Commission staff has the industry expertise needed to regulate manufactured homes.
  • NO REPRESENTATION!  Six of the Nine Commission members per Ohio law must come from the industry.  Industry representation will be eliminated if the MH Commission is abolished.
